Duke Ellington 1973 TV Special – We Love You Madly

After watching the opening credits of this television special from 1973 which honours Jazz composer Duke Ellington, we’re amazed that the floorboards didn’t break with the sheer amount of talent on stage. Those paying their dues to the Duke include (Drum roll) Billy Eckstine, Count Basie, Sammy Davis Jr, Sarah Vaughan, Peggy Lee, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Ray Charles and the band Chicago.

Like the Save the Children concert film which featured a line-up of legendary soul artists, this television special remains in the vaults of CBS and has never been released on video or DVD. So enjoy these few short clips that we’ve found and remember – It don’t mean a thing (If it ain’t got that swing)
