Our knowledge of synthesizers could be written on the back of a very small stamp. However, what we do know is the ARP 2600 synth was designed by Alan R. Pearlman with Dennis Colin, one was used in the film Star Wars to create the voice of R2D2 and the proof reader on the Herbie Hancock Advert missed “Brilliant”

Apart from being knowledgeable about designing synths, Pearlman was also a good salesman. During the early 1970s he gave successful musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Page, Billy Preston, Pete Townshend and Herbie Hancock a free synthesizer in exchange for their endorsement.
